An internet based class is much different than a "traditional" class. The student needs discipline and motivation to produce a successful outcome. It is not a class for those who "just don't want to get up early and go to a class" or those that think it won't take as much time as a "regular" class. It is a class that was developed for the distance student (+50 miles away), for the non-traditional student (full-time work and family), the full on-line student, and for the special circumstance student.
- On-line students must be familiar with e-mail, the Web, and computers in general.
- Online students must have an active ETSU e-mail account and check it at least twice a week.
- On-line students must be self-motivated. The instructors are not responsible for contacting students when assignments are missed and due dates have past. The student is responsible for keeping in touch with the instructor.
- On-line students must have a "Plan B". Hardware/software issues are a reality but do not constitute an acceptable excuse for not doing the work. Students are responsible for insuring that assignments etc. are completed as assigned.
If you meet the criteria as described above and are still interested, there are other requirements as well.
In order to successfully complete this class in the on-line environment, you must have certain hardware and software:
- Microsoft Windows XP service pack 2
- A dependable computer and a backup plan if should something happen to it
- A fast internet connection (Cable or DSL minimum) (the content is multimedia intense, and file sizes are large)
- Microsoft Excel 2007 (it can be purchased here)
No incompletes will be given in this class.
All due dates apply, and regular use of e-mail, discussion groups, posting, and other evidence of participation is required to meet the criteria for attendance/participation thereby contributing to the final grade for the course.
