Areas of Research
- Data Management for Civil Aviation: There have been several projects (including two Design Studios at ETSU) with the UN's International Civil Aviation Organization focusing on finding automated data exchange between Civil Aviation Authorities in different nations.
- Educational Assessment for Computer Science: A long running project looking at better ways to measure the outcomes of a Computer Science education, and use those measures in a feedback loop to improve undergraduate education.
- ISO 10303 Part 11 - Express: A project to build a data definition language geared specifically for the need of engineering applications. Versions 1 and 2 of this language are in world wide use.
- Computer Science and Science Fiction: How has Computer Science been portrayed over the years in Science Fiction? What can looking at Science Fiction teach us about how society as a whole perceives us?
- Semantics Loss in Data Translation: You get all the data, but the result means something else. What happened?

Brief Biography
Dr. Sanderson has been a professor at ETSU since 1993. His undergraduate work was at New College of Florida, and his graduate work was at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is the advisor for Computer Science students in the College's Honors in Discipline Program.
Professor Sanderson enjoys reading murder mysteries and science fiction, refinishing furniture, and gardening as well as reading about histories and alternate histories.
