Kevin Malone
Software Engineer
Scripps-Howard, HGTV Division

ETSU has a great computer science program. The professors are talented, skilled and care about the students. I feel like the program itself has a good balance of hands on programming with other skills needed in the workplace. I really enjoyed my time a ETSU and would recommended the computer science program there to anyone interested in computer science.

Currently I am a software engineer in an online department. I don't actually do web pages per say. I work on the back-end system making tools the web designers use to create their web pages. It combines HTML, JavaScript, Tcl, SQL and soon Java.

My educational experience at East Tennessee State University was uniformly positive. Its caring faculty and staff that takes the time to get to know students on a personal basis is second to none, and it was very easy to forge friendships with the receptive community of students as well. The quality of the curriculum is first-rate, and the fact that a large videogame company offered me a job prior to me even graduating speaks volumes as to the regard that others have for the university. I cannot imagine obtaining my degree anywhere else.

Andy McInturff
Software Development Manager, Stinger Medical

The quality of education that I received from ETSU was without a doubt exceptional. The faculty and staff of the Computer Science department contributed to the success of my career. The undergraduate program provided me with the necessary skills to enter the job market and hit the ground running. I have interviewed candidates for software engineering positions and when I compare their experience and background to undergraduates from ETSU, there's no comparison.

I decided to pursue a graduate degree in Software Engineering around 1998 and graduated in 2000 from ETSU. Once again the skills and in-depth knowledge I gained from the program assisted me in finding a senior level software engineering position. After seeing how each faculty member enjoyed interacting with the students, I myself decided to become a part-time adjunct instructor at MTSU. I would highly recommend both programs to anyone interested in pursuing a Computer Science degree.

I love ETSU and I am always interested in seeing the Computer Science department grow.

I was skiing last week and the guy on the chairlift asked me how far of a drive it was to the slopes from my home. I said I live in Johnson city and he said his wife is currently going to ETSU for a masters degree and that even though they live in North Carolina and have to pay out of state tuition that ETSU was such a great school that it was worth it. I was impressed by his positive comments about the college.

I feel that the education I received at ETSU was carefully planned for me and provided me with comprehensive knowledge of Computer Science. All the teachers always had time to talk to me about everything whether it was related to education or life.

The Computer Science knowledge I gained at ETSU was up to date and included all the latest developments and technologies in Software Development. The thesis option allowed me to work with my advisor on a topic of my choice. The thesis path helped me become very organized and independent. I learnt to handle multiple tasks at the same time without someone pushing for it. This experience helped me in my job a lot where I have to manage multiple projects and prioritize various tasks.

On the whole, the life at ETSU has been a great cultural and educational experience for me.

Critical Problem Resolution - Internet Explorer Developer Support

I am more than happy to share with others the great experience ETSU provided me. The professors as well as the open-minded attitude for change by using newer technologies was definitely huge! If I could get more students who know .NET and Microsoft technologies from the East Tennessee Area from other educational institutions, well, I would be really surprised!
